Typically very worn with poor centering, this particular example is very pleasing overall. The obverse depicts two lifelike wrestlers, reminiscent of the earliest Olympic games.     Issued from the late 5th - 4th Century B.C. Our 2,400 year old Apollonian Silver Drachms offer a great combination of historical significance, beauty and rarity; all for a surprisingly low price. Struck in the Greek city of Apollonia Pontika on the western Black Sea coast, the obverse features a mythical creature called a Gorgon, which was thought to ward off evil. The reverse depicts an anchor and a crawfish, reflecting the cities dependence on maritime commerce. The anchor depicted on the reverse is actually one of the first anchors of modern design rendered in Greek art.     Mithridates II ruled from 121-91 B.C. and these intricate silver drachms are much rarer than their price implies. In fact, we have never handled them before this current offering in any condition. Mithridates considered himself the "king of kings" and the Parthian empire reached its greatest during his rule. The obverse is incredibly detailed for the assigned grade and depicts a bust of Mithridates II facing left while the reverse is very finely engraved with several different letters and symbols, with the center showing Arsaces I holding a bow. These are great coins for the price and we only have a few available in Extremely Fine condition. Highly recommended and quite large in size--nearly the size of a modern-day quarter. Learn More

    Diocletain was a Roman Emperor from 284 to 305 A.D. From humble beginnings, he rose through the military ranks and became emperor of Rome, stabilizing the empire, marking the end of the Crisis of the Third Century. Due to illness, he resigned from rule in 305 yet his amazingly high-quality Bronze coins have survived the test of time. Each coin in this offering has been certified in About Uncirculated condition with remarkable detail on both the front and back of the coin.
