Kingdom of Thrace Coins

Thrace was a region bordered by the Balkan Mountains on the north, Aegean Sea on the south, and by the Black Sea to the east. The ancient Greeks employed the term "Thrace" to refer to all of the territory which lay north of Thessaly inhabited by the Thracians.

Lysimachus (360 BC – 281 BC) was a Macedonian officer assigned as one of Alexander The Great's bodyguards. After Alexander's death he was assigned to rule Thrace as provincial governor and stayed there for many years until the Battle of Ipsus in 301 BC. King Lysimachus also helped drive out Demetrius, King of Bactria, from Macedonia in 285 BC. Coins from this timeframe are of the highest artistic quality and very desirable in today's marketplace.
