Croesus Silver 1/2 Stater NGC Very Fine

Be the first to review this product

This amazing, 2,600 year-old silver coin was struck by King Croesus of Lydia and is known to be the first silver coin ever issued in human history.

This example is completely original and depicts the lion and bull design on the obverse with a double incuse punch on the reverse.

The lion is thought to represent strength and the bull is supposed to mean fertility.

This is a great coin for the price and the second largest of the six silver staters issued by Croesus. Sizes range from a full stater down to a tiny 1/24th stater.
